Last summer was my first summer selling bike socks. When I told my family and friends I wanted to create custom socks related to the trails around our valley, they said something along the lines of, "Well, try it out and see what happens. You don't have to do it next year if it doesn't work." (Mind you, I had never designed socks in my life!) I knew they all thought I was a little bonkers.
Then, with ZERO sales experience, I started going to each of the bike shops and asking if they wanted to buy some of my socks. Not being an official clothing rep, I definitely threw off the local businesses. But...I just kept trying. Each new business I went into my voice and hands would shake a little less than the last time.
If I recall, Sunlight Ski and Bike was the 3rd shop I went into and I think they bought 12 pairs of each design I had (I had 2 designs). This year?! Well let's just say being persistent and keeping open communication with businesses is starting to pay off! Sunlight is now carrying every trail sock I currently offer (9!!), INCLUDING the custom socks I designed for their shop. Oh, and they also have a ton of my new trucker hat designs!
To say I'm flattered is an understatement. I truly can't believe I get to collaborate with the local businesses in the Roaring Fork Valley. Sunlight, thank you for believing in me! I hope all the Tabletop goods fly off your shelves!
